It's cold. My throat is sore and my feet are cold. Yet somehow the Mr. Kool truck is still rolling around outside playing that stupid song. I am having seasonal identity issues.
From the farmers market:
Milk
Eggplant
Bread
Apples
The Farm Share Bounty:
Collard Greens so wide I could fan myself like I am Cleopatra.
Lettuce
Arugula
Onions
Carrots
Garlic
Red Kuri Squash
Celeriac
Despite all the good things written about celeriac (celery root) I don't trust it. I know it for what it really is. I am sure it is the root of all evil.
The following characteristics are provided to support my claims of how evil this 'good for you' and 'full of vitamins' vegetable is:
It is ugly. It looks like something a gremlin or an evil elf would want to eat for dessert.
Also it smells. It smells like celery and I hate the smell of celery.
It probably tastes like celery which is too awful to even think about.
I wish I liked celery. Along with broccoli rabe these are the vegetables I can't and won't eat.
I do like squash though so I'm looking forward to trying last weeks delicata and this weeks red kuri. The delicata can last up to three weeks at room temp. Which is why I still have it.
The red kuri looks like a pumpkin.
It should be great in soup. Mmmm soup. Just about the best past of winter. I could puree it too. Squash is so versatile. I wonder if the sport is as pleasant as the vegetable.
P.s. The $11.00 Hamptons watermelon was a let down.
