Three little ducks

I really stole the show at dinner. At least my Chilled Spring Pea soup did. I will only refer to it as the Most Amazing Soup ever. It was a good looking soup, bright with color and taste. The ingredients are likely things you have at home already; peas, flour, onions, broth, butter and any sort of kicking spice or herb like tarragon or mint. I used the chives from the market, and a dollop of yogurt to top it off. I was too excited to use the chive blossoms.
The chive blossoms surprised me, the first bite tastes like flora, then the chive taste jumps in really strong, then all of a sudden, on the last few chews there is this kick of peppery and pure chive. As if all the goodness that is chive collected in those fuzzy purple blossom. What a fantastic plant.

After the Most Amazing Soup Ever was the big salad, a deep green jungle of mixed greens and lettuce from the share. James made the dressing using some leaves our tiny-little-urban-herb garden as well as some herbs from the green market. The dressing was parsley, basil, oregano, cilantro, garlic scape, chive, olive oil, honey, and red wine vinegar. He pureed the ingredients into a very green and savory dressing. Yum.

I'm not one for duck. For me there are too many reasons not to eat it. Besides the chewy consistency, I am not a huge fan of the taste. It's hard to know how much of my aversion is due to cultural grooming. When I eat duck my mind falls into an association game. I think of Donald, Daisy, Daffy, Scrooge McDuck and his three adorable nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck.
I realize there might be an element of tastelessness on my part. James, Brother, and Liz are more evolved then I am. Where they see a delicious meat and the culture of French cuisine, I see cartoon ducks. James bought me chicken instead, which pissed me off even more then him buying the duck breast. He may as well have bought me chicken nuggets.
To be fair the glaze for the meat was great; chilli, honey and ginger. He put it on my chicken too. The 1 lb. of swiss chard from the share was the side. We are a little late in discovering this, but this Two Buck Chuck wine from Trader Joe's is much better then you would expect for$3.

I was really pleased with my stellar soup. James was super jealous that my culinary skills extended so much further then what he has come to expect from me. The look on his face when Brother and Liz said how delicious and beautiful my soup was really made the whole meal priceless.
